The Life of a Professional Ski-bum
Autobiography of Japanese ski-bum.
The author never skied in Japan. While working as a tour guide in Jasper AB Canada, he was introduced to Telemark. It was the love at first sight and he never looked back. He was totally climatized with the Canadian Winter, even went down-under, the Andes, to ski in July and August – it was a bad winter though, he thoroughly enjoyed the trip, oh, no, the Journey.
The book opens up with “Who can be a professional ski-bum” and extends to the necessary characteristics of being a pro-ski-bum.
The major part of the book are the anecdotes: “Those Wonderful Moments”.
The author tells vividly the excitements of the deep champagne powder – “Poor Man’s Heli-ski”, “Best Powder Day” and so on.
He had a near death experience in Columbia Ice-Fields – ice avalanche.
“Snow Angel” and “Cabin Fever” are the romantic encounters.
The author wonders why some people tried back country skiing in “Are You A Plato?” and “What a Heck …”
“@#$%ing Jerk” is actually “His Moment of Zen”.
The author keeps changing the mountains every few years because – you better find it by yourself.
The book is some times funny though, the undertone is definitely Zen.
It is a must book to those who lost the meaning of life.
